Fashion Trends for Fall 2005

Author: admin

The overall theme of fashion for Fall 2005 is an air of drama. Black is back, coats are dramatic, and smart tailoring is going to be huge.

Black is back in a big way – well for most of us it never went away. The stores will be filled with delicious eveningwear particularly black lace, which is sexier than ever whether it’s girlie, 80’s retro, boho or red carpet elegant. This also works well with the next big trend which is Victorian. Full length skirts, high-necked ruffled blouses and puffed sleeves are the main features of this look. You can go for either prim or sexy. Accessorise with boots, hats and gloves for a total look.

Dresses are soft and feminine for Fall 2005. Velvet in sumptuous autumnal or jewel colours, while more boho-styled graphic prints will also be around for those of you who loved your hippy chic this summer and don’t want to give it up just yet.

Coats for this winter will be big and dramatic with big collars, possibly in fake fur. The big story however is going to be Houndstooth checks, the bigger and bolder the better.

In fact checks are big in all types of clothes this fall, including plaids and tartans which appear on everything from trousers and skirts to bags, shoes and hats.

Tailoring is back as one of the strongest features of Fall 2005 – in particular the pencil skirt which appears as part of a skirt suit. Skirts of all types are hot for Fall, straight, wide and swirly, and for the slimmest of figures only the ‘bubble’, a tulip shaped skirt which will exaggerate hips, so wear with caution!

National costumes have inspired lots of heavily decorated ethnic styles, in particular Russian styles, thick with embroidery and texture and topped off with a furry Russian-style hat, warm enough for the depths of a Moscow winter. Peru has also provided inspiration for embroidered clothes and bright knits.

There are many gorgeous accessories around this season to complete your outfit. Knee high boots, ideally with laced up details to go with the Victorian and ethnic looks, and platforms are making a comeback, usually with a narrow heel. If you prefer flats there will be lots of ballet pump styles. Metallics in shoes, bags and belts will also be popular. For daytime, bags can be as big as you like, either slouchy hobo styles or classic square types. For evening, bags should be tiny and decorated with tassels, jewels or embroidery.

The detail of the season will be pom-poms on everything from scarves to shoes, and the hottest color for accessories will be purple, preferably with studs.

The Queen of Hearts Costume – Classic Or New Style?

Author: admin

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful children’s story about a little girl named Alice. Then that lovely story was made into an equally lovely animated children’s story by Disney. Flash forward several years with Tim Burton, the iconic director and his take on the tale with favorite actress (and his wife) Helena Bonham Carter in the role of the Red Queen. Has there ever been a more delicious and delightfully wicked version of this character?

The Queen of Hearts Costume, regardless of the style that you choose, should start with the attitude. Okay, I know that is backward from the way that I usually describe these things; however it is very important to consider. You should think about the way that your costume makes you feel- and the way that you make others feel as well. Personally, I enjoy a costume that makes others feel a little edgy, you know, just a little afraid.

There are several things you should consider about the Queen of Hearts costume. First, there are several types that you can opt for. One of course, is the purchased item from either a costume shop or an online source. Second, you can pull a similar look together from items that you have. And third, you can make one if you are a crafty type person. Personally, I encourage all of my friends, family and enemies to buy from reputable costume sources rather than spending the time and effort to make their own. Those crafty people scare me more than an underfed vampire.

The Queen of Hearts costume that you opt for, no matter which one it is, should be the right colors, of course. After all, you cannot be the red Queen if you have a blue dress on. There are other things to consider as well- the Queen plays sports with a flamingo- something you could consider as an accessory. In the updated version, the Queen of Hearts also has a great time using a warm piggy belly to prop her feeties on.

As a final note, it is important to keep in mind the additional items that might be the difference between an old Queen of Hearts costume and a new one. Some of the new ones will feature a larger head, a full mask that fits over your head and shoulders so that you can have the freakishly large noggin like the Red Queen. Off with their heads, indeed.

Ideas For Kids Themed Birthday Parties

Author: admin

Kids love to have a birthday party with a theme and all the decorations of their chosen character. There are many popular themes and the following list may give you a few ideas for your child’s next party.

Girls Parties

1. Dora the Explorer – This is a very popular theme for little girls. A great theme for a birthday party would be a Spanish birthday party complete with piñata. The children could have fun with a sombrero party which is played similar to musical chairs. Placing the hats on a table in a circle the children go around the table until the music (Spanish) goes off and then grab a hat.

2. Barbie – Every little girl loves Barbie. The theme of this party could be a makeover party. The birthday girl will have loads of fun as will her friends when they get to dress up like Barbie with real make-up too. All the little girls can have makeovers. Provide tiaras for them to wear as well. Of course, there are many Barbie games that can be played such as a treasure hunt for Barbie

3. Hannah Montana – The latest in the craze of girl’s role models is Hannah Montana. This would be an excellent birthday party theme for girls around the age of 8 to 10. A karaoke machine with music from Miley Cyrus is going to be a must. A make-shift stage will make a big hit and you can give prizes to the singers. Complete this with a cake in the shape of a giant CD.

4. Tinkerbelle – When it comes to fantasy, Tinkerbelle is probably number one. When planning this party make sure to purchase wings and wands for the party girls. The birthday girl can come dressed as Tinkerbelle. A tent in the back yard fixed up like a fairy castle would be a great addition to the party. This would also allow the girls room to sprinkle fairy dust as they play. Games adapted to the fairy theme such as tag are very popular for these parties.

5. High School Musical – This type of theme for a birthday party would be for your older children such as pre-teens. You will not have to provide games as you would for younger children. The music of course should be from the movie and your decorations will want to go along with this theme. Food will be your main thing. Provide all the snacks they like such as chips and dips and finger foods. Kids this age love to snack.

Boys Parties

1. Spongebob – This can be a fun time for your little boy. With bubbles, Spongebob stickers and all the sea creatures that live in Bikini Bottom, one great way to celebrate a birthday would be to have a pool party. Play hot potato in the water with the theme song from the show using sponges for the ‘potato’. Serving crabby patties from the grill and other snacks will make this birthday special.

2. Super Mario Brothers – A great party idea for young children, the main food can be pizza and chocolate coin candy can be used for party favors. The theme music from the game can be played and a contest to see who can find the most mushrooms (you can make this yourself) will be part of the fun. A Yoshi piñata is another great idea for this birthday theme.

3. Pokemon – This can be a party that your child will remember. Either a game of Pokemon trivia can be played with Pokemon cards for the prizes or a Pokemon treasure hunt can be another idea. Kids love to be up moving around and this would be a great idea for keeping them busy. Of course you need the theme items for decorations and the cake.

4. Wall-E – A scavenger hunt allowing the kids to find their way back to Earth with every item they find on their list is a great Wall-E party idea. The game of Simon says with robot voices would be another. Find enough junk for the kids to work on their own robot. This can be loads of fun for the Wall-E party.

5. Kung Fu Panda – If you know someone who is knowledgeable in the art of Kung Fu, see if they are available to come to the party and show the kids a few moves. If not, you may be able to hire someone for an hour for a nominal fee. Be inventive and think of games that could incorporate the use of chopsticks. Have a sword fight with something non-dangerous such balloons.

70s Costumes – Relive the Past and Let the Good Times Roll

Author: admin

One of the most happening decades of the past is the 70s. With disco inferno and the hippie revolution, it is no wonder people are going retro with 70s costumes! If you’ve been invited to a 70’s costume themed party, here are some 70’s costumes you can try out.

Disco Costume

Disco was one of the major things happening in the 1970s. For a funky 70s costume, think John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. Bright colors – the louder the better! You could even choose to wear a combination of colors that would normally be frowned upon today. Choose a three piece suit that is made of synthetic fabrics, such as polyester. In particular, choose a suit with a high rise vest which has wide lapels. Pair this up with a pair of flared pants or bell bottoms, fitted close to the butt, flared out around the knee area. You could also choose some bright-colored pants and cut the outer seams to make it appear like a bell bottom. For the shoes, platform shoes are the way to go. White platforms were a very popular choice in the 1970’s.

Hippie Costume

Woodstock and hippies was a major thing back in the 1970s. Which is why hippie costumes are a popular choice for 1970s costume themed parties? When wearing hippie costumes, choose psychedelic colors. Some men just choose a classic t-shirt with a peace sign on it and pair it up with bright-colored bell bottom pants. A tie-dyed shirt is also a popular choice. You may also choose to wear a vest over your outfit. For women, a mini dress in a loud color is a sure fire way to get everybody’s attention. For the shoes, wear flip-flops or sandals. Some women also wear white boots to match their psychedelic outfits. Wear your hair long and around your face. A cool touch is to wear tea shades or sunglasses that are slightly transparent. Don’t forget to flash the peace sign everywhere you go!

The Beatles

One of the most influential bands of all time is The Beatles, who also reached their peak during this decade. Made up of 4 talented musicians, The Beatles are also a great group dress up idea. If you and 3 of your friends are going to a 70s costume themed party and need a quick 70s costume fix, dressing up as The Beatles is the best way to go. A classic Beatles costume is the black suit worn over white long-sleeved polo shirts. A black necktie is used to top the outfit off. You can even buy a wig to match the hairstyle of the different members of the band.

70’s Costume Accessories

For your hair, wear it big. Back in those days, the popular hairstyles were afros, the shag cut, and pompadours for men; for women, it was either big permed hair or long straight hair. If a guy, you could also wear a fake mustache, which can be bought at your local joke shop. Make-up is bright colors and fake lashes. Body glitter will make your body shine and finally, wear fake gold bling around your neck.

These 70s costumes never go out of style. Relive the 1970s and go retro with these fabulous and loud 70’s costumes! Have fun!

Halloween Costume Ideas For Adults

Author: admin

Halloween costumes can be great fun even for adults. In fact, why should kids have all the fun? Dressing up during Halloween can be equally entertaining for adults. Of course, you will not go out “trick-or-treat-in” but you can invite your friends and have a gala time partying Halloween style.

When it comes to adult Halloween costumes, you have to think a bit outside the box. The idea here is to choose something that goes with your personality or theme. For women, it can be doubly fun because they can easily take this opportunity to dress sexily as a fantasy or fictional character.

There are also quite a few naughty adult costumes for men and women that are sure to get a lot of attention and/or laughs. These are great for gags at Halloween parties. Although, you have to be a bit daring for these even though it is all in harmless fun.

Choosing a costume that somehow reflects your personality or a hobby is even better. For example, if you are a great Spiderman fan, people will expect you to dress up like Spiderman for Halloween. What they will not expect is for you to dress up like Peter Parker with the famous Spiderman costume sticking out from underneath an unbuttoned shirt. Thinking along a different line will often land you with a great costume idea. And unusual costumes always attract attention. They are like puzzles waiting to be solved. An unusual costume can be a great way to start up a conversation, no matter which side is wearing it.

Adult Halloween costumes always have space for innovation and a great way to innovate is through mixing and matching costumes. You can take parts of older costumes and buy some new accessories to put together a custom costume based on your ideas. This is a great way to ensure that you wear a unique costume. Nothing can be more disappointing than finding someone else wearing the same costume at a Halloween party. It can get especially bad if you don’t like the other person and people start getting confused between the two of you.

Hence, it always pays to put some thought in to your Halloween costume. You can do this by staying away from the obvious choices like the characters from the latest sci-fi blockbuster or the latest fantasy novel. You also need to stay away from the stereotypes because you can rest assured that someone or the other will be dressing up as a cowboy or a Roman warrior.

Instead of doing the obvious, get to a good costumes store and start searching through their catalog. Doing this at a physical store might be very time-consuming and frustrating. Especially because you might not always find a good costumes store near you. This is why your best bet will be an online store. Online stores usually have a huge catalog of costumes and you can look through their vast collection of accessories and costumes in your own time. So if inspiration strikes you in the dead of the night, you know where to look.

Birthday Party Invitation Cards

Author: admin

Birthday parties are intended to be celebrated in the best possible manner by the host. They try to meet up with all the requirements, making them amazing in their own way. The chief concern of all happens to be the venue, the cake and, of course, invitation cards.

What happens when you have to invite the guests over to tell them about the event? You need birthday invitation cards with the name of your child, the day when the party would be held, the timings and the address of the arranged venue that could be your residential address or that of a public area.

Invitation cards for birthday parties are available in the market. They have various prints on them, like the print of a cartoon character on it; for instance, Cinderella, Batman, Spider-Man, Snow White can be printed to state as to what birthday party theme is being followed, and whether of a girl or a boy.

Sending out birthday party invitations for the next celebration of your child is not supposed to be highly expensive. However, the cost of it has increased than it used to be. Since you are aware of the expenditures on the list of the arrangement of the party, it can be suggested that you can make invitation cards all by yourself by surf on the internet for a while, looking for appropriate designs with the bright colours. You can even make your child become a part of this activity, and you shall see, in the end, your cards would have the touch of an innocence that would contribute to the presence of various guests in the party.

In other cases, you can get hold of e-cards that are printable. All you need to do is to choose from a large variety of patterns and designs. Use a paper of high quality paper for the printing so that the result is highly impressive. Also, the colours should be vibrant in order to reflect your taste that would in a way allure guests to come and experience the birthday party of your child.

Make sure that you choose the right pattern and design so that it states vividly if it is be a fun-filled party. Nobody wants to risk spending their time on a sober birthday party.

Just to suggest some particular birthday party cards for boys and girls, I would hereby recommend some few design patterns. For boys, you can choose Winnie the Pooh, pirates, trucks, ships, sports, racing cars, Mickey Mouse, fire trucks or Aladdin; and for girls, I would recommend Queens, Dolls like Barbie, Dora, Cinderella or Snow White. All these can be selected from various websites that offer free reviews of their own flash cards.

Above all, make sure that you send out the cards to almost everyone. Therefore, if you make the cards by yourself, make sure that you make the list of guests, friends of your child and your relatives, so that no one is missed out. In that way, you would be able to make the cards and make a few extra ones as well.

A 20s Theme May Be Just The Thing For Swing

Author: admin

A 20s theme party is incredible, though most of us can not remember this era in time, and can barely imagine the historical aspects of this decade, a 20s theme party can be lots of fun, and allow your creativity to take over when planning your 20s theme!

Prohibition and the blossoming of the bootlegging trade are earmarks of this colorful period in time. Drinking was illegal and bootlegging gang related crime was big news and big business. 20’s related attire such as pin striped suits, beaded short dresses, spats, Mary Jane style heels, Bogie Hats and feathered head bands are easy to find in thrift and resale stores. Just use a little imagination and ingenuity, and you will be good to go!

Create an old Speak easy atmosphere by sending invitations containing black satin bow ties for the men and black feathers to be worn by ladies. Instruct them to read the classifieds personal ads for further party instructions. Then, run an advertisement with a specific password which will be required for admittance–just like the old gangster movies showed! Tell them that without a password, they will not be admitted!

Even for an outdoor party, you can create tents, have a makeshift entry door with a speakeasy peephole, and bouncers with Tommy Guns can be stationed around the area. Have a gun check at the door, and give prizes for those who either thought to come packing heat, or for those who manage to elude detection and actually smuggle theirs past the guards.

Serve your drinks, whether they are hard or soft, in coffee cups to avoid detection, and serve a late night buffet to your guests. Consider make ahead items or items that can be catered to minimize stress. A deli bar is a good choice, but so are assembly lines with tacos, nachos, and fixings. Basically, any item can be a 20s theme hit, but you should make it easy on yourself. Consider serving drinks in plain containers marked with xXx.

Ghost World

Author: admin

Cast: Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, Illeana Douglas, Brad Renfro

Directed by: Terry Zwigoff

An old guy in a threadbare suit is always found sitting on a bench, waiting for a bus, which never comes.

The staunchly outsider protagonists of this poignant and wryly funny existential comedy are waiting for a bus…to take them to a world they can connect with.

Based on a comic-novel by Dan Clowes, the movie brings to life the freakishly intelligent, cynical and articulate character of Enid (Thora Birch playing one of the most memorable characters ever created). She has recently graduated from high school and she has no plans of doing anything even remotely aligned with socially accepted norms. She is, by choice, what most people would call a loser.

Enid is forced to take a make-up summer art course. The overly earnest, ex-hippie teacher, in her quest for higher meaning, has lost her ability to appreciate art for its own sake. She sees a student’s father in his rendering of a violent video game character and finds a ‘tampon in a teacup’ an exceptional expression of ‘repressed femininity’.

Enid sees the people around her fitting in effortlessly, going ahead with their lives (‘majoring in business management with a minor in communications’), being happy with ‘a Big Mac and a pair of Nikes’. But Enid sees all too acutely the shallowness and mediocrity of the homogenized listless culture around her. And she cannot find a place for herself in it.

Her best friend, the pretty but smart Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) is Enid’s only soulmate at the outset. But Enid is slowly losing Rebecca to the drab, routine adult life of day jobs and apartment hunting.

Then Enid meets Seymour (Steve Buscemi) on one of her exploration trips of ‘authentic’ 50s style retro restaurants, backyard sales and video rental stores. Seymour leads an hermetically sealed, resigned existence, surrounded by his collection of 1500 seventy-eight mm ragtime and blues records (he has pared it down to the essentials).

Unknowingly, Enid and Rebecca play a cruel joke on Seymour by responding to a personals ad placed by him. But subsequently, Enid recognizes a kindred soul in him. She finds him such a ‘clueless dork’ that he’s almost cool. Their relationship is based on brutally affectionate companionship and their shared unapologetic acceptance of their outsider status in society. The difference is, Enid is brazen while Seymour is reticent to the point of being invisible.

Enid tells Seymour that she could find a girlfriend for him, who shares his interests. Seymour replies, “Maybe I don’t want to meet someone who shares my interests. I hate my interests.” He knows that he is seen as one of those ‘pathetic collector losers’, trying to fill up the void in his life with stuff. Seymour harbors no illusions, big or small, as to his utility to the world or his chances of getting a date with a gorgeous brunette in a cafe.

At some level, all of us feel trapped by life’s conventions but find ourselves to be helpless. These people have rejected society and accepted their emotional solitude in the bargain.

There are no easy resolutions but Enid and Seymour do find out ways to carry on. ‘Ghost World’ observes and attempts to comprehend the internal realm in which these characters live. And it does so with a tenderly humane touch.
